Project: WASH, which we support together with United VARs, brings water, sanitary facilities and hygiene training for children in Cambodia.

Running clean water from the tap, washing hands, functioning toilets… We have access to these, but what about them? These are fundamental for healthy living and we are not even aware that we should be thankful that we have them. Yes, we do but more than 2 billion around the world don’t have access to the improved sanitation that clean water can provide. And this tragedy contributes to more than 800,000 deaths worldwide of children under five each year.

Clean water and sanitation was accepted as “a fundamental human right” in 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly. It is also one of the 17 sustainable development goals determined at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on September 25-27, 2015. Accordingly, activities continue around the world to achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation and hygienic conditions in homes and healthcare facilities for all.

These principles accepted by United Nations’ member states are also supported by civil initiatives. Project: WASH, carried out by United VARs is one such initiative. Cambodia is one of the countries most impacted by lack of clean water (water.org). The students carry plastic bottles filled with water from dirty rivers and almost all suffer from diarrhea, and, unfortunately, many of them die under the age of 12.

The project, which was brought to the agenda during the alliance’s April 2019 meeting upon the initiative of United VARs Managing Director Detlef Mehlmann who visited Cambodia two years ago, saw great support from United VARs members. The goal of the donation campaign launched for this purpose is to spread fresh water and sanitation systems in Cambodia. In the project supported by SAP, United VARs members transfer a certain percentage of their annual income to the project. And United VARs donates €1 for each social media post about the project. We at Detaysoft support this campaign.

We do, yes, but what about them? We donate to make a change for them.
